In Another Time

In another time and in another place, I would never have seen your face. Never have fallen in love on the spot. You are the one I would have forgot. But I gave you access to the inner me. Let you in fact, feast on me. You ate me up then spat me out. Left me empty, devoid of my heart. Yet on reflection, in fact I got to see and feel what true love must be. The aching, the yearning, the touch of your lips on mine. The divine feeling of mutual bliss in a simple kiss. Do I regret? I would live again that time and the terrible heartache that was mine. To be once again two as one. To enjoy once more all the fun. We shared a love hard to define. When I was yours and you were mine. No other man yet has discovered that trove. Buried too deep and still in repose.

When I was fifteen I spent three weeks in an Irish college away from home, supposedly to improve my Irish. Such fun we had climbing out the window at night to meet the local boys. I revisited the school house yesterday and cried. My life did not turn out as happy as I had hoped it would in those innocent times. C'est la vie Darren.

Look closer at this picture Andrea, and you will view unrequited love. His left hand is not around me, as it should be, but held against his abdomen. How true it is that a picture paints a thousand words. Thank you for your kind remarks.

You held nothing back. True poet. True artist. Where shall I stand to view this best. I think I need to stand where I can see a little reflection and some wisdom with hope and love still in the frame. Glad I am not judging this contest not that I could because I am entered. Good luck to us all as poetry will be the winner. David in NZ

Hope and love still in the picture? Here's hoping David. "True poet. True artist." Major compliments and deeply felt. Thank you. I can't even get my daughters to be bothered reading them. When I'm famous perhaps?? Good luck in the contest.

LIke children spinning, holding hands, it only takes one to loosen the grip. A lovely, poignant piece, Jean. And, judging from the photo, you're still the winsome Colleen. By God, if I was ten years younger........I'd still be ugly :) Viv x

Stop teasing me Viv. This photo was taken thirty years ago. Our romance had been ten years prior to that. On this occassion, I wanted to tell him I was thinking of proposing to a mutaul friend. He did not try to stop me....

jean - you've captured that feeling so perfectly that i understood exactly what you were going through then and why you'd want to relive it, despite the heartache it caused you. excellent poem! (i'm assuming that picture shows you and the person this is about, no?)
