Imperfect Role Model
I grew up in foster care without a role model in my life so I had to look elsewhere
I had no idea that a strangers words could help me feel strong when I'm scared
Sometimes we worship celebrities like they're perfect and do no wrong
I'm thankful that from the start, you talked about your flaws and mistakes in your verses and your songs
I was 8 when I first heard your music, and I probably only liked it because of the swearing
Too young to understand the meaning, but your music took the place of my parents
Your attitude shocked the world and you upset a few people
You had the courage to speak your mind even though some called you evil
I'm thankful you painted pictures how you chose and didn't listen when people told you to fix your art
The way you put words together and rhyme always hit the mark
You had the ability to make me laugh and cry with the same line
I try to paint pictures with my words, there's inspiration from you with the way I paint mine
The world wanted you to water it down and to write another way
But your lyrics gave me the strength and courage to carry on and fight another day
You inspred millions of people, not just me
Your words helped me to fight back against the bullies who pushed me
You never hid your flaws or mistakes, you always put it in your art
Good or bad, happy or sad, you always choose to pen your heart
I'm thankful you followed your dreams and had the bravery to write
Even though you don't know me, thank you Eminem for being my imperfect role model, your music saved my life
