Ignorance Is Bliss

Ignorance is bliss They say There was a time I would disagree Believing in transparency Being the key I’m older now Wiser I understand That sometimes you can’t walk away And so you determine That what you don’t know Can’t hurt you If you turn a blind eye And play the fool And believe… That ignorance is bliss You build for yourself an ideal world Of peaches and cream And sweet comfy dreams Swearing by trust and honesty Fidelity and monogamy A world where affairs of the heart Are unheard of A world where you never have to wonder Why he’s late again Or why that trip took so long If the one who admires him Who strokes his ego Is just being nice or If she’s already stolen his heart You don’t have to wonder If that’s you reflected in his eyes Or someone else that he’s making love to While you give him every inch of yourself Body and soul And even more Hoping It’s enough Ignorance is bliss Ignorance is…..bliss Becomes the mantra You say over and over Reminding yourself…. That truth might demand change That truth might bring separation and pain Might change your status quo Push you out of your cocoon of complacency Might hurt the ones you love Ignorance is bliss BLISS As you wipe away a tear And you cry yourself to sleep Because you know… You know way too much to still pretend That ignorance is bliss. Ouch... that ending hurt like a knife! I could really feel what you were going through, while I was reading. When you love someone from top to bottom and find out irrefutable proof that completely destroys what you thought of them. You describe a very bad situation and an unhealthy relationship. Kidding yourself that everything is fine... extremely well written Eileen!

Timothy...always a pleasure to hear from you. I'm sure this poem highlights what many women face especially in the sense that they choose to remain in ignorance because the alternative might make life much more difficult for them. Thanks for the compliment. It means a great deal to me. God bless.

Very powerful and moving. You do have a way with words. Bliss has never felt so sad as it does here.

If you have to hope it's enough then you know it is not. Love the last three lines. Great poem, just great. Take care, Richard

Eileen, this is one poem I can truly relate to. You have voiced this feeling so well, and it makes my heart hurt to remember what this feels like! Wonderful write, my friend, and I hope this isn't actually something you're going through.
