If You Could Have

If you could have, just one more day, a day with someone, that went away. Would you spend it, holding them tight, or talking a streak, way into the night. Maybe a dance, to your favorite song, or watching the sunset, until it is gone. Many have left me, that have meant so much, and a part of me, can still feel their sweet touch. One day I will see them, if I pass that final test, and be with the angels, for they only allow the best. When that day comes, and I just go away, maybe, just maybe, my memory will stay.

I can certainly relate with you here. So many have gone on before me and how I wish I could have said goodbye but the Lord knows. Reminds me of a couple of poems I wrote..My latest..Longing to Hear..I wish my parents were here to celebrate in my latest accomplishment. I will be going home to do a book signing for my family in three weeks and already my heart aches. I know the feeling. Great write.

We often ask ourselves 'What would we have done?' thinking it may change the outcome that took place. I say that the hands of fate hand something different planned for all of us. We are all passing ships in the night and the six degrees of separation couldn't be any more true. Our life experiences are what make us unique and give us personality. Those of us that are hurt the most are often the ones that live life to its fullest. Never forget that throughout history, words have changed lives.

Great poem. My best friend just passed away last month, and before then it had been years sense we spoken. I wish that I had one more day to make up for all the lost time we had. But hopefully I will see her again one day.

I write now as I choke back the tears. I lost my best friend and though it has been over a year it is still such a fresh wound. I wonder often just what I would do with one more moment. Thank you for writing such a touching piece. It is beautiful and a reminder to live each moment that we do have to the fullest. Smiles from Lolita
