Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase. - Martin Luther King, Jr. I’d change the hearts of those who doubt… The wonder of love that never dies out, The beautiful that will never burnout, The joy that believes despite the worst drought, The music that plays even when lovers pout, The lives that stir hope without having to shout! I’d change the hearts of those who fear… The shadows that bring darkness so near, The reflections of pain we can’t even hear, The silence so quiet it seems to jeer, The anxiety that causes hope to disappear, The worries that speak of grief so clear! I’d change the hearts of those who despair… The suspicions that teach souls to beware, The feelings that bleed anguish so rare, The black that never fades despite our prayer, The shame that lingers inside those who dare, The futility of a dread that will surely impair! I’d change the hearts who bleed pride, The agony inside those who have cried, The distrust that comes to those who’ve lied, The melancholy beyond the hope that has died, The longings that come from love that’s denied, The sorrow where there was once one who tried! If there was one thing I could change, my friend, I’d change the hearts who only real love can mend!

Impressive that you wrote so much and it rhymed! I agree with you. I'd change the hearts of those who bleed pride. I'd bring joy to those who have cried. I was a little misty eyed as I read your sweet words. Have a pleasant weekend. You're a poetess extraordinair! hugs, Sara

I love your take on the contest and I was thinking on similar lines... Your poem's message resonates with a profound sense of empathy and compassion, reminding us of the transformative potential of love and the capacity for redemption that resides within each human heart. It inspires reflection and invites the reader to contemplate the possibility of inner change and the enduring power of genuine love.
