If I Were An Elephant

Here I am performing tricks Under a very big tent I'm often chained and beaten too, much to my discontent I remember when they took me Where once I roamed so free Put me in a big crate And brought me over the sea I often think about that place Where once I used to be I'm hoping those I left behind Are still roaming free

I don't like being in a circus, or a zoo, it makes me sad, so does your poem. It's a beautiful poem, good luck in the contest

It's sad that the elephant actually has it bad at either end of the boat trip---between poaching and performing, we need to stop abusing our partners on this planet. Joseph you did well in writing this poem to bring attention to this matter

I can't get an inspiration for this contest so I was curious to so what you had done. It is succinct, fitting and well-written, Joseph. You made it seem so easy to do an elephant write, but I'm still lost. Good luck with this little 'gem' that I suspect is truth for many circus elephants - I don't want to think about it, so sad! Hi Joseph, this is a brilliant poem about one of natures most beautiful animals the Elephant, how I love them, so sad to see them locked up and so beautiful to see them in the wild, if I were an Elephant I would want to be free, loved it. Take care......Vera

Joseph, very nicely done. All too sad, and believable - elephants really do seem to remember.
