If I Forget
If I forget how I ought
to be with you,
the love I confessed to you
if I do not prove it to you
or no longer hold you in my arms
as in time past;
do not fail to show me
the right path to tread
if suddenly I forget
and toe the gentle way of the street
If I act in ways that hurt your spirit
and for the wild chase
of silken maidens:
sometimes I leave your side
and at times, I fail you
and at other times, your place to another give
that tear your feelings apart…
Do not look upon me as deem fit
When I do not take you
as bones of my bone, as flesh of my flesh,
do not abandon me
to the dilemma of my fate
leave me not I beg of you
But,
in your kindness
remind me of the good times
we shared together.
Remind me of my promises to you
and how I ought to be with you.
Walk beside me,
the paths I should take
if you lead, I will follow
But
If you abandon me
If you leave me a moment
I shall forever be lost!
