If I Forget
If, when I get older, I should begin to forget my past,
and I can't quite remember if, or when I saw you last.
If my mind begins to wonder in and out of some dream land,
Do me a favor, please don't judge, and give me a helping hand.
Bring out those great old movies that I so enjoyed in my day,
I'll be watching them for the first time, but in a different way.
Play me some great music, like disco and rock and roll,
To me they will sound new and just might replenish this old soul.
No need to show me your old pictures from long, long ago,
I'll be meeting you for the first time and it's you, now, that I should know.
Each day that I am living will be new, through these aging eyes,
So greet me with a good handshake and render sweet goodbyes.
The past may be important to you and it's hard for you to let go,
But don't stress me out with questions as answers I won't know.
I'll be a new born each and every day and will live those days in stride,
So let me just be happy with the joy and wonder found outside.
When these days are all over and I'm put down in my grave
Please remember that the best times were those last ones that you gave.
