I Went For a Swim

I went forth into the water, Cool and crystal clear, Making ripples as I went, The screams I didn't hear. As I left the shallows, To venture the darker shades of blue, I began to imagine shadows, Things that left old places; to follow something new. As I continued my adventure, Splashing gaily about, I began to notice a change in temperature, And took notice of the fins along my route. Now panic takes hold, I sputter to maintain breath, Feeling less and less bold, Feeling the creeping tendrils of death. A razor like tooth, Sliced through my flesh with ease, I now realize my truth, My life will end on these seas. I awake with the nightmare fresh to my taste, The horrors of my own mind, From my heart these demons chased, And sealed a peaceful dream to a dreadful bind.
