"I wandered lonely as a cloud." William Wordsworth I wandered lonely as a boat a shallow dingy left behind, alone in marsh of reeds remote my paint now faint so unrefined, my only hope the next high tide on brackish water then I’ll ride, in aimless drift left up to fate the wind and wave upon the bay on rhythmic swells, I’ll grow sedate with naught to see through mists of gray… on ripples pale so soft so free my destination out to sea; that distant place where lay the sun across the sunset waters west, the ambiance of cirrus spun to brush with colors every crest where I can bathe in shades so bold; the melting solar marigold. Yet — let go I must of wishful dreams! My lifeline dispossessed I strayed and followed streams with other schemes — now lofty tide cannot be swayed, a rustic wreck in reeds reposed their wind-song whispers I’m imposed. There’s no escape their soldiers’ lance, the blades of green so tall and crisp, with waves they undulate in dance and breezes ruffle tassels’ wisp, though swans find beauty mid the reeds —a wistful coward’s bitter weeds. Well, this is probably the latest I've ever turned up for any party. :) Having read your host of golden lines, Susan, all I can add to what everyone has already written is.."And then my heart with pleasure fills.." :) Cheers - Gary

Ah, I adore that you quoted Wordsworth himself, dear Gary :) As your exquisite poems are always so lyrical, I am thrilled by your wonderful response to my poem, inspired by a contest I was too late for (talk about being late for the party lol!), sponsored by Natasha Scragg using the lovely Wordsworth poem, I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud. I admire Wordsworth's Romantic style and it was an honor to compose this poem with his immense poetic gift in mind. Thank you for your gracious visit and heartwarming words, both are truly appreciated. Warmest wishes, my friend.. ~Susan

I'm ashamed to arrive so late for the party dear Susan! I can imagine you and Wordsworth collaborating together to produce high-quality poems such as this one, in which imagery, metaphor and personification abound. Iambic tetrameter and the rhyme scheme mirror the structure of "The Daffodils" (in your case using 5 stanzas instead of 4.) I could keep on and on, but am running out of space :) Definitely a worthy p.o.t.d. Warm regards & Hugs my friend // paul

Dear Paul, it's not a proper party without you! You're never late to the party and you are always welcomed! :) I’m elated to read your words in response to my poem. Thank you, I am humbled and honored. Wouldn't it wonderful if we could collaborate with our favorite poets from the past, what a grand imagination you have, my friend. Of course, I had to add the extra stanza, being as naturally verbose as I am, haha! Hopefully, I would have made Wordsworth proud with this poem. I'm thrilled to know you enjoyed it, Paul. Your presence is uplifting! Warmest wishes and hugs, my friend.. ~Susan

Dear Fin, your beautiful response to my poem touches me deeply. Thank you for bringing your inspiring presence to my page and for sharing in the emotions of this poem with me. I am humbled and honored by your generous words. Today and everyday, our poetry class's lesson plan is to read /comment on poets' works here at PS and to read poetry from the classics to the modern.. that's how we learn and grow best, I think.. Your visit brings loads of smiles, my friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Susan, I thought I'd commented on this before now. Nonetheless, I will say again how much I've always admired your poetic talent. This winning entry reinforces my belief that your poetry is superior in every way. That's despite what one person just wrote on his comment which said someone else was the best poetess in the Soup. I would definitely take him to task on that with, "Hogwash!" Congratulations on another mile we've run together.

What an exquisite creation, dear Susan! I am so enthralled. This sure is a well-deserved win. " From my paint, now faint" to "where I can bathe in shades so bold of melted solar marigold," what a high tide of hope! And then you introduce a dramatic turn...a boat that strayed and followed streams with other schemes. I want to read it again and again.

Absolutely wonderful, Susan! Such creative poetry with a precise rhyming scheme to catch the reader's attentive pleasure. The extended metaphor of the boat adrift to life lived is most relatable + imaginative. Many congratulations! Brian

Dearest Jennifer, my inspiring poetry friend and soul sister, I am so delighted by your visit! How are you and yours? Your new granddaughter? More adorable than I can imagine I bet! Thank you for your wonderful appreciation for my poem. Your radiant presence gives my poem a shine it would not otherwise achieve on its own. The kind generosity of your precious thoughts and warm congrats touch my heart so very deeply. I love the title too, but I can't take credit for it. It was required by the contest judge and participants had to fill in the last word as the subject of the poem. I am honored by your beautiful friendship, lovely lady. Warmest wishes, love and hugs for you sent across the many miles.. ~Susan
