I Trust In His Word

There's a force of strength deep inside of me that is nourished by the truths I believe. It centers on my faith in God, and I decree that when I am burdened, to Him I cleave. His Word dwells within my heart, reverently. As my loving Father, I acknowledge my belief that the friend I worship is the one true God. In times of sorrow, weeping, and in grief, He comforts me and His tender mercy, I laud, when I feel fragile like a windblown leaf. I firmly believe He'll forgive my misdeeds, if I kindly pardon my trespassers in return. He reads my heart and is aware of my needs. I hold fast to scripture, His love I'll never spurn. I'll be the wheat in a field, grown among weeds. I believe God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus, the Son are three different entities, not one in the same. Jesus died for mankind's sins to save everyone, and for His sacrifice of death, I praise His name. Who but Father and Son could save us? No one. I trust in His Kingdom where I'll not aggrieve over sickness or death, for they will not exist. My loved ones will be resurrected, this I perceive as the chance to live forever, who could resist? In all these things and more, I truly do believe. I see the foretelling of prophecies coming true for our world suffers from wars, a deadly plight, famine, pestilence and natural disasters, too. Jesus said, "Follow me, for I am the Light..."* In times of anguish my faith will get me through. December 10, 2022 What I Believe Contest Sponsored by Angela Tune *John 8:12

Jenna, this is beautiful, I too believe, and hope that soon all the sadness and tears of this war-torn world will be wiped away. There was a time I'd lost all hope and didn't believe in God anymore. I had believed as a child but had drifted away till I didn't believe in anything except science. It was a terrible time. At my lowest ember, I found that Christ's love was right there, it amazed me. I appreciate your beautiful gentle words of love and faith. I needed this today <3

He's always there for us, BJ. We just need to have faith in His plans for us because He knows better than we do what we need. I'm delighted that you found comfort in my words. Hugs, dear friend.

He was there for me and saved me, though I always believed in Jesus, as a human being that hated injustice. I saw Him as a beautiful man who was a real social reformer. I never really lost my love for Him personally. I did read in the book of John back in 1999, and since that time believed He was God in the flesh. I knew He was my Savior before I believed that personal belief. I know I will never know all the answers, unless maybe in heaven someday. I love reading about others personal journey in His steps, following in His love and faith. Of His sweet passion for us! I used to be terrified of God as a child (and as an adult!), though I loved Jesus. I never told anyone how I felt about God Himself, except my husband. Since reading the book of John in 1999, I have actually felt peace with God as well as His loving Son. Again, I love your poem, as I can relate to it so personally. I hope you are blessed <3

Jenna, when your talent for expression is united with your resolute faith and deep love for God, it is a wonder to behold. Your final stanza is quite a statement of hope and optimism that faith in God will help us endure the darkness. Thank you for crafting and sharing this powerful statement of belief.

Endless debates can't dismiss the beauty of this poem and content, JL. Believe and cherish, forgive and be forgiven. No doubt the triune God~Son~Spirit lives eternally, before and beyond.

Thank you, Arlo. From your comment I see you believe in the trinity... not my belief, but you're entitled to yours.

Lovely, Jenna. I agree with Anaya, too. Proverbs 3:5-6 has always been my guide. When I tell folks Jesus was NOT a trinitarian, they want to tell me I'm crazy, but he wasn't! That idea was formulated about two hundred years after Jesus was crucified. See Council of Nicea.

We all have opinions when it comes to religion. Both of you gentlemen have expressed yours without allowing it to escalate into something more than just a difference, so thank you. My poem expresses mine, so ponder this: If God and Jesus are one in two names, would Jesus have been talking to himself when he said, "My God, why have you abandoned me?" If he was resurrected to sit at the right hand of the Father, would he be sitting at his own right hand? Not possible.

Be that, as may, and your research is accurate, Jeff, but Jesus was NOT a trinitarian. He was a Jew by birth and by faith, and I stand by that. John's gospel, as early as 90 AD does, indeed, have language we can interpret as trinitarian, but, begging the question, it was written some fifty years post-Jesus, so, why does John never employ the term? Why did Ignatius not utilize the term? Keep in mind, I am only arguing the point that Jesus was not a trinitarian, not the early history of the church; nor am I disputing that the idea originated very early in the church. Always keep in mind, too, that 200 years is a long, long time, almost as long as the history of our country!

'Trinity' as a word was utilized by Turtillian in 200 AD, more than 125 years before Nicea (325 AD). Scripture as a whole and the NT in particular is entirely consistent with the doctrine of the trinity. John's gospel, perhaps as late as 90 AD, is full of Trinitarian language. Nicea codifies the doctrine in creed form, but it most definitely does not create/invent it. Ignatius wrote in defense of the doctrine perhaps as early as 125 AD, just did not use the word.
