I Never Held
I never held; I never held my course.
Where e'er I went, I detoured from the way
I cannot say I was led off by force
'Twas always my own strange intent to stray.
I never got there by the quickest route
Sometimes I never came close to the goal
I chose the path my nature always sought
I chose the path that brought life to my soul.
And so I never won that final prize
But then I never ran to win the race
I did not run fast but I travelled wise
Enjoying all, and all at my own pace.
