To my Poetry Soup friends - this was written as a thank you note for all of your beautiful, uplifting gifts of poetry and comments. Your words can mean the difference between a dark day and a light day ~ thank you all The walls were closing in last night my covers felt like straitjackets the darkness crushing fragile hope I needed wings to soar away. I rose to find your poem here it spoke of dreams and butterflies, of wind and whispers filling sails - my soul rose with the sun. A dreaded phone call. Plans today are torn asunder, raining grief, the colors I once knew are black - I need new eyes to see again. You write of sorrow, yet your tone is one of dawn and singing birds and spring's growth resurrecting hope - my faith in God restored. An empty home awaits me now the air is flat. No tune is sung to open windows of the heart and let the summer sing its song. You write of sunsets in their poise while kissing the horizon slow I read this and my wounds are healed- your poem gives me wings. Your words inspire, this much I know they open curtains, let in sun, bring music to the quiet space they speak of faith in things unseen. You turn my thoughts from dying leaves to robins singing from their nests - I thank you, friend, for all your words, I needed wings today. Written 1 April 2022

Oh my dear PoBro! Magnificence spills from your gifted and expressive pen. Like the phoenix, it is miraculous to rise from the depths of emotional pain and find, in the heights of our heart's rebirth, the beauty of Nature's life and Her wonders amongst the sullen ashes. Indeed the power of friendship and poetry feeds the glory of the phoenix. The ability to inspire and to be inspired, is a band of gold between poets, a circle of perfection never ending with the promise of uplifting creativity and the gift of comfort. Please accept my belated congratulations for both POTD honors and for your excellent trophy win with this metaphorically beautiful piece of finding the sunlight of gratitude in the midst of darkness.. both honors so richly deserved. You are a potent poetic force, John, and your friendship to me is a fount of joy. Thank you for sharing the gift of your poetry. Warmest wishes and hugs.. your PS-PS

My dear and wonderful PS-PS, the depth and breadth of your affirmation and encouragement always astound me! I am spilling over with gratitude to be held in your high esteem when your golden pen and poetic friendship are so admired. I am humbled to be embraced within your circle of friends and deeply value your kind and generous input on my ramblings and rumblings. Your phoenix allusion is so on point, for we do need to sometimes rise from the ashes of setbacks, loss, and grief, and it is friends such as yourself that send those wings soaring. Warmest wishes and deepest blessings to you ~ your PoBro

Susan, as an artist, I know you comprehend and deeply experience the medicinal and restorative power of art. The dark days will come into each life, and in our pain, we turn to that which heals and comforts. For many of us it is reading and/or writing the words that connect one soul to another. Some days it is fine art, some days music, maybe literature/film/dance/theater, sometimes just re-reading a letter from a loved one. Thank you for being one of those healing forces. I appreciate the fave and the time you spend joining me on the journey. Blessings and hugs ~ John

You are a mentor, a friend, an inspiration to everyone at this site - you have made us believe in the power of poetry. This poem is definitely going to my faves, to read many times. Dear Mala, no comment is ever too late, for each one is a gift, and the timing is always just right. I am so grateful for your poetry friendship, your inspiring and creative poetic gifts, and your encouragement to your fellow poets, myself included. Yes, let us all believe in the power of poetry; the power to heal, support, educate, and inspire. Each one of us is a gift to each other and to the world around us. Thank you dearly for the fave and the time you take to bring a blessing. Warmest wishes ~ John
