I Love My Age

We own it and owe to it I know what love is, adore silence’s gold Content and at peace, no grudges to hold. It gets better and simple at this stage - I love my age!   I can stay up late with my buddy moon, Sleep like an angel till late afternoon. Simply real, really simple at this stage - I love my age! I can order large pizza on a whim, No longer stressing about staying slim. I can laugh at myself since at this stage - I love my age. My destiny gifted me a whole lot - It thoroughly tested, patiently taught. I’m wise, no more questions, now at this stage - I love my age!   Perfect harmony in a one-man band, I strike the right chord at my own command. Old age is not at all such a bad stage - I love my age!   I learnt “grow old” is a byword for thrive, If I sulk and fret, it means I am alive. Every morning aims at a “good day” range - I love my age!   With winter in charge, lucky I’m at home I’m not in the street, I am inside and warm. It’s not what I miss but have at this stage - I love my age!   I thank fate for keeping me safe and sound, I lost and forgot but later on found. Must be God’s simple plan to endure pain - To lose, suffer, find all over again.   If my left knee is sore, I squeeze a smile, It could’ve been both, much worse by a mile. Must be simple reason, at the very least - To treat golden age as a daily feast! —————————————————————— But then relativity logic kicks in: Who truly believes that the beauty’s within?! I must have accepted such dubious truth, I did as a matter of fact. In my youth. Who am I kidding with a large pizza spree?! For decades I lived lactose, gluten guilt free. If not due to carb induced constipation, I would surely thank my heartburn sensation. Staying up all night - easy! What could get worse?! Scant hormones make up for insomnia’s curse. Time to reminisce in between naps at noon - Years back my love life was aligned with a moon. And what about quitting, how callous is that?! Whatever I relished turned out to be bad! If I ignored warnings and doubled down vice, The more reckless it was, the higher the price! I am awfully wise and dying to share, All falls on deaf ears, no one bothers to care. I can no longer do what I well know how - Wisdom - bummer! What shall I do with it now?! You know what? There’s no time to contemplate life! My last nuanced thought - every stage is but strife, It is plain and simple - while you are onstage - Love your age! March 17, 2023

Love this. Was thinking of using it for muse in one of the contests till I realized the second part was your own response to the first part!

Not quite like that, these are my two takes on the subject. You are welcome to give it a different spin if you wish. Just don’t tell me :)

Ah, yes, too soon old.....too late wise. I see way too much of myself in this poem Margarita. I tell my little great grandkids that "if Papa ever catches you you're in big trouble". Thanks for participating in the contest.

Hi Margarita: Really enjoyed your fancies and then a reality check on aging. To me aging happened very quickly and a real sense of time running out. I try to be thankful too.Best, SuZ

Margarita, I am facing the "aging" process now, and finding it both challenging and delightful! There are many things that get better, once the "productive" phases of your life have passed. I enjoyed your poem very much!

Thank you! One door closes… I find more productivity now than ever, doing what I love and not doing what I don’t want to… well, close to it:)

I like the way you've balanced the ecstasy with the agony in this write --- and come to the indubitable truth: Let's enjoy whatever we can while we can! Cheers, Gershon

And I love both sides of your story, M. I especially like "grow old is a byword for thrive". Now those are words to live by.

This was a fun read Maggie. A lot to be thankful for and then the not so good parts. Love your age? What are my choices? tell me how to shut off the AARP junk mail. That would make me happy:) Thanks for the morning smile. Best way to start a day at any age.
