I Knew I Shouldn'T Have Done It
I knew I shouldn’t have done it
As soon as it was done
And so I sat and waited,
For the policemen to come;
They arrived in a panda car,
Lights; flashing all the way.
All of my neighbour’s nosying
I bet it made their day.
They came in the front door,
they hurried out the back,
Burly firemen followed them
with hoses on their back.
“Where’s the fire” they shouted,
as they reeled out rolls of hose,
‘Under the car’ I said to them
afraid to get too close.
Twenty people in there,
Was such a squash, you see?
All of them were looking
directly at me...
“Well” I stammered in discomfort
“He said he lit the fire”
But all they could find
were, ashes by the tyre.
All’s well that ends well
they packed up and they went.
With words of wisdom
“next time buy a tent...”
