I've seen the friendships come an go loyalties changing, a telling show All this I've seen, all this know "Nothing gold can stay" I've seen the lovers changing tune now standing tall when first they'd swoon a love once living, gone too soon "Nothing gold can stay" I've seen the vows all turn to dust commitments torn by chains of lust Left in the wake is tattered trust "Nothing gold can stay" I've seen it all and so I write I've seen the strong ones lose their might I've seen the wrong spring from the right "Nothing gold can stay" I've seen my dreams die one by one I've seen the clouds obscure the sun I've seen the good by evil won NO, nothing gold can stay.... Eileen Manassian Thank you, Robert Frost...

Its a changing world, Eileen; we know that, yet some changes bring us pain and sorrow, because we do not expect them....such as betrayal of friendship and love. I've had some moments like these..not depression, but disappointment mostly. Fortunately there is always a new day to look forward to:) Take care. Hugs // paul

Amazing verses Eileen. I once believed that but then I started to not worry about things I cant change, things that are unfair, and focused on the things around me that I love, the people around me I love. The beauty that is there everyday. We just have to look, look beyond the sorrow, beyond the pain, past the what if's and what could have been. A beautiful world is there Eileen we just need to look.

Thanks, dear. I've had a rough couple of days. Very rough. I think I'm better now...at least I hope I am. We have a holiday tomorrow, which is good. It's Independence day here. So, I get to be home another day. That helps. Thanks for the support, Tim. All the best to you.

Certainly a very powerful piece, with a perfect refrain! I know from these bleeding lines, that you have went through a lot to come to write this way. Everything changes, we are human, and so full of flaws, often hurting each other without even knowing, or knowing the extent of the hurt. Amazing work. I really like the lines; it's as if the narrator is trying to convince theirself of the refrain. Always, Laura

Thanks, Laura. I've seen this in real life and I've seen it in this Poetry Soup world. Just some thoughts....It's not the first time I've written a poem based on Frost's work. It's the melancholy in me fighting for expression. Thank you for reading my work. Hugs

Yes Eileen, some people we think the world of will let us down and go, ignore us, treat us as if we were never there , but there are those few, very few, who will stay , and never leave us alone, then there is Jesus, We leavehim leave him at times, but He stays, I can so relate to your poem, so I can understand the pain, and the feeling.. But better days will come , Hugs.

Of course, my sweet. What you say is so so true. I know that in my heart. There is one love that is unconditional, and that is His love. I hope all is well with you and your loved ones....Sending you warm hugs from Beirut. It's Independence Day today, so I get to stay home. I'm so happy...

I fear you are looking in the wrong place dear one. The poem is very well written but my personal experience and relationship with Jesus has shown me a different perspective. I would say there is truth to the saying "All that glitters is not gold"!

He is the only One who never disappoints and loves unconditionally, Richard. I know, and I am grateful. I hope all is well. I haven't seen a new one from you for a while. Last was the Sweetie dedication. Hugs

Beautiful, sad, I have been blessed in that yes even with all the hardships, disappointments, I have seen those who who are golden and do stay, only when you realize this, do you realize they are Gold, so to speak! I have also found true friends may be in the background at times, but are there when you need them, and I sure I hope I can say I was too! hugs Loved this poem!

You are a dear friend, Arthur. You've been very supportive of late. I do appreciate it and am ever grateful. I never forget a kindness....ever. I've written on this theme before. This poem has always struck a chord in my heart. My mother's illness has also brought it to the forefront of my thoughts. Ah....better stop before I get into a real melancholy. Thanks for all your love and concern. Hugs
