I Dreamt I Was the White King

I dreamt I was the White King in the Looking Glass, A White King who is sleeping, and dreaming as he slumbers, Dreaming of Alice as through Wonderland she passes. Dreaming of an Alice who is in an Alice dream, A sleeping Alice dreaming of the White King, who is me, As I dream of Alice, the White King and the Queen. An Alice who is but a dream in Carroll’s insanity. Dreamworlds within dreamworlds within dreamworlds without number; Like infinite regressions, Like the reflections In two facing mirrors. And as I dream I wonder: Am I a dream in Carroll’s mind Or is he a dream in mine?
