I Dont Want You to Die Alone
Grandma was on her “Connie, you need to be married” kick again.
Connie said “But grandma, what if my happily ever after is being alone?”
“I don’t want you to die alone,” Grandma told her.
“We all die alone,” Connie said.
“But I want you to have company.”
Connie said “I love my life. I get up when I want.
I make my own work hours. I paint, play music, dance, sing,
I have friends no one else has to approve of. I love my freedom.
I don’t have to tell anyone I will be late.
I don’t have to make supper for anybody but myself
I can stay out all night if I want, I can travel wherever I want.
I can have all the pets I want. I have the best life.”
Grandma was silent for a long time.
Then she said to Grandpa “Get your own supper, Pa.
I am going to stay out all night with our granddaughter.”
Pa could not stop laughing.
