I Dont Want To Frighten You

My ten-year-old granddaughter is a cartoonist like me. We were comparing notes, when I asked if she writes too. Yes I do write! She told me. Her blue eyes were solemn. What kinds of things do you write? I asked her. I write about terror, she told me. She has the most innocent face. I said “terror! What kind of terror?” “I don’t want to frighten you,” she said, “but I write about war.” “What do you know about war?” I asked. “Nothing.”
