I Did My Bit

I signed upon the dotted line, I swore the oath to serve. I took the shilling offered me I took the bible too. I was trained to fight and kill, I also learned a working skill I never went to war like Dad, I never got medals like he had. I went where I was told to go, I never got to use my fighting skill. I never had to kill. I could never say I'd scored a hit. I can only say I signed, to do my bit. © Dave Timperley 14 December 2016

Thanks again for your comments Gordon. Just looking at your profile pic, you seem to walk on the left tilt with your medal set. I could walk with a right tilt with my Dad's and Grandads. I may well do this Remembrance Day. They have a bakers dozen between 'em. God Bless. D.
