I Did My Bit
I signed upon the dotted line,
I swore the oath to serve.
I took the shilling offered me
I took the bible too.
I was trained to fight and kill,
I also learned a working skill
I never went to war like Dad,
I never got medals like he had.
I went where I was told to go,
I never got to use my fighting skill.
I never had to kill.
I could never say I'd scored a hit.
I can only say I signed, to do my bit.
