I Can'T Breathe

In memory of---- all lives taken by unfair justice. Solely in my room, I can't stomach the sound of my pulse I sit here alone to forget the taste of air Deluge by the scenery - unbelievable footage 18 seconds long, Eric Garner GONE... NEVERMORE Here we are again, 8 minutes to never be revived "I can't breathe." My Judgment "Lacks Respect" The Last Straw... George Floyd, murdered in broad day I used to fear wreckless colors, now I fear spinning bright lights The Red, White, and Blue, I spew you What's wrong with your sense of humanity? You see him, you want to deprive his oxygen What a day to trade -- a life for illegal cigarettes, a fraudulent check. Persecution and judgment day, his life - packed in a box. "I can't breathe" executed for all to experience When bullets fly high, who's policing the police? What happened to mind my business? Haunting voice tackled by racism, pouring heavy hearts Clowns in the background silenced one's testament, Pleading, "I can't breathe!" Where did his vigilant vitals go? No one to tap out, pound the pavement What the hell, why are you just standing there? Mr. Officer, can you not see Sandra's, struggle? Tension, anger, madness, the voice of innocence "I can't breathe." The volume of valium "Officer, did you not hear the cry?" Now they sleep.............. Ears on mute, blue lives heart can't compute Have you forgotten how to save a life? Is it whites or every other badge, insinuating crime's a one-color show We are all criminals, why the excessive heat? Shot, tasered, beat down, pepper-sprayed, now on the ground The mother of all chokeholds, taking a knee without a movement. Murdered, outnumbered The echoes remain "I can't breathe!" - The truth! Eric Garner, George Floyd, and others robbed of their natural path One man eyed suspiciously, perplexed minds suffocating him instantly The mistrusted, the awe, the hate, so tangible uniforms use deadly force Slamming heads on the floor, open wounds, worldwide tears My heart extends to the friends and family left behind A courageous last breath, for the first and last time "I can't breathe," now deceased. You left this world unwilling, waking up a strong community. Strolling in a safer world, where racial discrimination doesn't exist "I can't breathe," Much to our dismay, We should fight injustice and stand for equality. Gorge Floyd, Rest in peace! This sadly so relevant to the days we have today. So much injustice, hidden racism and discrimination. Not enough of simple joys in life. Its best to keep it small and influence the ones you can reach. I do love your oem. Please do keep the mind that will show people there is morale moal compass in this world.

It used to be that words were enough. Now, if you don't see it on TV, it can't be real; a government whose actions are more onerous than that king ( also named George ) who sparked The American Revolution ~ A Patriotic Call for Serious Constitutional Remedys!

Powerful stuff and more than lip service. Have written a few poems about equality. The them and us mentality needs to change, as does idea that money alone solves issues. Where opportunity is lacking there will be inequality. Also finding a way past the fear for those who have unreasonable views about others. Take care David in NZ

Dear Linda,, Stopping by to wish my favorite free verse writer of all time the BEST YEAR EVER in 2021. I will never forget witnessing the death of George Floyd on Television. It is burned into my mind forever. That humans are capable of such cruelty and filled with such hatred is beyond my comprehension. It is writers like you, dear Linda, that give hope for humanity to put aside their hate and learn to love one another. ~ Elaine

This is an excellent post, narration, and dynamic poem, my sister of God's grace. I love the flow of the words and the impact of the message. The descriptive excellence is right on point. The theme of "Standing Up For Justice," is great, and tenor move the piece along with much grace. Great job! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53812816-sincerely-speaking-spiritually.

i cant find the words to say....just exactly what your words display....it is like the color of my skin....to the police is a sin....i move in peace, i engage with Love....but for a black man, they only see o.j.s glove....we are not all the same....and for them, its a real shame....because if they truly knew what i have to offer....then of suspects, i would be offf that roster....so powerful my Beautiful friend....;)

Amen. We cannot let fear and anger feed the monster and now is not the time for taking selfies or splashing out on cosmetic surgery or seeing who can throw the most money at the issue. We need to dig deep to clean out old wounds. I write from a distance in nz. My most recent poems - can you feel the fear and where has all the money gone is my two cents worth on this. Stay strong David in NZ Excellent write
