I Am

Who do you think you are With disdain dripping from your eyes Splashing me with your disgust I am human Can you not see me Can you not hear me No of course not How can you when I am so far beneath you Flames build in my chest Erupting from my roiling stomach I am a person I scream The sound thunders through space Crashing into the room Yet no one turns a head No acknowledgement is given I begin to shrink Icy rain extinguishes my flame I am no one I have no voice I have no face I need to disappear Not even the Universe listens to my plea As this shell called I am Refuses to fade away Emotions used Rage and Despair 08/19/2022 Strong Emotions Poetry Contest Sponsored by Emile Pinet
