Hurricane Katrina
Water quickly fills the town,
a natural disaster and the levees came down;
still no one could see the ground,
helplessly watching friends and family drown.
People stuck up in their attics,
on cell phones they'd get nothing but static;
houses completely covered in water,
see mother standing without her daughter.
No need to go back,
you have no home;
you've lost your family,
now you feel so alone.
The feeling that you have nothing to live for,
no choice but to steal your next meal from a closed store;
hundreds of people packed in shelters,
diseases continuously spreading through contaminated water.
Every few seconds as I watch the death toll rise,
both the young and the old all have tears in their eyes;
a big place with less hope, less funds, and less lives,
it's like having a value meal minus the drink and the fries.
