Hunger In the Cradle

Written May '85 when I was 14 It's truly a shame in our day and time that a child goes hungry: it should be a crime. We say look ahead to a bright new dawn, but tell that to a mother when her child is gone. The baby died in her arms - she fell fast asleep. They're used to it now and don't even weep. The sickness, the death, it's not in a dream. It's so close to home, but it's not even seen. The cities, the slums, the famine, the drought - we've got to do something. It won't work itself out. There's food in the world, let's show that we care. The children are dying - it's so hard to bare. Many are dying and many more dead. No food, no clothes, cold ground for a bed. It's a serious thing, and oh it's so fatal. LISTEN TO ME WORLD! There's hunger in the cradle.

Neither political party has a clue. A country this affluent should not have this problem. Congrats on the feature.

Your poem is so sad but written from the heart. I so much enjoyed reading it as maybe your words would do something one day to those poor children and families suffering from the war. Very nice. Terry xoxo

Brian - like me, you found therapy in writing at a young age. So many people that age DON'T feel from the outside, only their own inside. You were born a poet with natural raw talent. I think I found you before and was also impressed then. I must make a mental note to check out your page ... CayCay (do not trust my memory!)

Thank you so much, CayCay. I really do appreciate your kind comments. I look forward to reading your work, and I do hope you'll take a few minutes to read a few of mine. I am not nearly as prolific a writer as you and many others here...but I'm trying to write more often. Blessings to you!
