Hunger

Hunger Red-gulletted, it can eat up a man A five year old could defy it at will And reject a bite that comes once a day Hunger, its wholesome milk ,and all the food Hunger dies before it could kill or maim City-fathers, priests, self-styled do-gooders And plenitude-promising pot-bellies There is only extinct humanity Amidst your existent privileges.

Yes, it can be a very real thing for far too many people in this world, Jag. I enjoyed this one.

Only a few times in my life have I ever felt true hunger. I am not ashamed of this but I do feel overwhelmingly blessed to have so much. I pray that at the end of my life I have fed many who needed a bite to eat.....Jag, this verse is awesome. It is loaded with the understanding of a kind and compassionate heart! Great to read your latest work this evening! :) Human compassion exceeds all other gifts--this equates to KNOWING who is hungry and doing our part.... Gwendolen

Nice piece of poetry, but it is sad. Sometimes people think that Hunger only exists in other Countries. The truth is that it exists here too. In the Land of Milk and honey. Thanks for sharing this with us. Lucilla

A very painful way to exist and yet so many never had a decent meal. You point out this horrendous truth with such sadness Jag. It was hard to read for me. Luv, Lizzie
