How I Felt seeing my First-born

Curious and anxious for a gift so grand, To see the face of my newly born joy, Half hoping to see daughter placed in my hand, I walked, spring in my steps and heart in buoy, To feel the feeble face of infancy, To peer at the four pounds of thrill gift-wrapped— A long awaited bliss, rare ecstasy, Ah in my arms, new fatherhood on tap. And yet, the newly sent bundle of joy That showed imprints of mother more than mine, My prayers answered well, but by a boy, Not daughter, and still it was more than fine. ‘A gift from heaven, and no less dear still’, I heard her, trying hard to hide my chill. __________________________________________ Sonnets |05.06.2014| son, daughter, gift Poet’s note: It happened more than fifty years back and still so fresh in mind.
