How-To

I overheard the class on Zoom – The first grade wrote “How-To’s.” The teacher told them any topic Could be theirs to choose. My fav was “Making Ice Cream.” The “How-To” is here, complete: “Put some ice cream in a bowl, add sprinkles, Then begin to eat.” Another, “Making Pancakes” Made me laugh a bit again: “Put pancakes in the microwave For 40 seconds, then… Put on your plate and then you add Some syrup on the top.” I guess that making things from scratch Has somehow seemed to stop.

Ha, ha, ha! Just great, ilene... When my youngest kid was in 2nd grade, his teacher had them write up recipes for the turkey on T-giving Day. Here's one: Buy the turkey in the package. Put it in the oven at 100 degrees all day. Take out and serve. Must have been a taste sensation, eh?! Happiness, gw

They are so funny when they tell step by step how to fix a turkey for a Thanksgiving meal. I saw those in the hallway before winter break and I could not stop laughing. Zoom must mean you have grandchildren who are virtual learners at this moment?

Ah, the fun they are missing! I recall my yougest sister begging my mother to let her make breakfast. We were all surprised when we were served green pancakes (cake colouring) which she thought looked beautiful! Enjoyed, Ilene! Aloha!

You're right Ilene, the old skills are dying out. Take some modern houses, they come in sections, secure a few bolts and it's ready in two days. Tom

Ilene, you’ve summed up my view of modern life in a few stanzas. Today’s young think they own the planet, what with their new ideas and food that arrives cooked at their door. But take one old codger and a bunch of ‘Google-oids’ and stick them on a desert island… the codger will be king. Nicely observed, Ilene. Terry
