Hope and Peace

While walking amongst an angry crowd, trying to escape the turmoil surrounding me, Hope appeared. I took her arm; She guided me through the chaos. In the sea of mayhem, we were separated, I lost sight of her. Frantic and overwhelmed; dizzy with the shifting of the crowd, a small opening appeared; I maneuvered my way towards it. As I stumbled, the opening changed direction; an exit pattern laid out before me. Focusing on the exit, I realized I had not lost Hope, she was clearing the way for me. With the roar of the crowd behind me, Hope and Peace stood before me. Originally written: June 2016 for Paula Dyer after the tragic loss of her husband, John Dyer. Take it you are talking about God and referring to Him. Without him, none of what you say is possible. Hope and love of God has always stood before me. I consider myself a centrist. Cannot go wrong with that.

Paulette, so glad I found this today. Hope is my favorite poetry subject, and the way you personified her was so creative. The imagery of being jostled by a hostile crowd portrays so well the feeling of not having hope to guide us through life. Well done, a FAV for me. I wish you all the best in the contest. Warm wishes ~ John

I love it even more now that I know the context. I am saddened by your friend's tragedy, but comforted when I see poets using their gifts to help bring healing and hope into a dark situation.

John, so glad you enjoyed my piece on Hope. I wrote this for a friend of mine who tragically lost her husband. She was so devastated she was losing faith in life. Personifying Hope creates an atmosphere to 'hold on to' and look to the future with a renewed faith. Thank you for visiting my page, you always are so encouraging. Blessings, Paulette

Sometimes, hope seems to turn away from us but she's still there waiting with peace.I love your poem my dear friend Paulette. A superb one. A personification in free verse is not easy for me but you did it with so much ease and with great form. I'm so delighted and honored for your invitation to read. Thank you so much. I enjoyed. I love the direction this poem took. I especially liked lines 10 and 11 - "Focusing on the exit, I realized I had not lost Hope, she was clearing the way for me." How wonderful! We must never lose hope and that peace was there also was great. Nicely written.

It's hard to lose hope, thank God when she comes back. We need her right now more than ever, don't we? I almost lost my daughter when I was pregnant with her, and when she was born I named her Hope for the hope and prayers it took to get her here. A lovely and encouraging poem. I'm so glad to have found it.

The poem makes me think whether her company will be life-long or after the destination is reached, she will leave him. Whatever the result may be, a hope-giving poem!

And my friend, that is the way it oft comes and delivers. Moving those obstacles that imprison us within ourselves. Opening new paths, new doorways out of the abyss. A truly excellently woven tapestry my fiend. A new fav too. God bless.
