Peanuts nestled in my palm Awaiting Black Capped Chickadees These little pirates claimed their booty And stole my heart away Clawed feet hooked ‘round my pinky As they appraised the contents Then snatched the plumpest nuts Yet no plunder was involved When I begin to lose all hope It seems I feel those tiny toes Mere ounces lift my weighty pain A fair exchange indeed For Brian Strand's Indelible Impressions Contest
