~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Homesick, we’ve all been there; Home embodies a sense of belonging. Having family and friends in one place Helps make home happen. However, Houses, schools, churches, stores, people all change; Homeplace familiarity gets lost through the years. Maybe, Hiraeth abides not in space or time, but in the mind and heart?
Nice Pleiades, Sara. Good topic too. I can follow your logic here and concur with your outcome. I miss our own cave when away. It's comforting getting back home. Hugs, Bill
Dear Sara, your poem is truly remarkable. It beautifully captures the universal experience of homesickness, a sentiment that resonates deeply within us all. Personally, whenever I venture away from my familiar surroundings, a profound longing to return home engulfs me, as if my attachment to my bed is insurmountable. Yet, upon setting foot in my beloved city again, a palpable serenity washes over me, as the very air saturates my senses and bestows upon me a profound sense of tranquility.
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and feelings with me. I'm the same way....whenever away from 'home,' I suddenly miss it, especially my own bed. I can relate to your 'attachment.' I also experience such joy when I return to my city again....I always think of the Wizard of Oz..."There's no place like home.' Thanks for your visit and have a great evening, your poetess friend in Texas, Sara
A lovely poem, my friend. Homesick is an American soldier sent to some foreign land where everything is so different. It is a little better with today's technology making it easier to keep in touch.
thanks for sharing and for commenting. My husband was sent to Thailand and was isolated from his ex-wife and newborn for almost a year...technology would've softened the heartache. You're right...enjoy your day, Sara
I feel homesick sometimes for my state. All my family is there while I am stuck out here in Utah, but it's a really nice state at least. Good one, Sara.
Homesick makes me wonder about early pioneers, who left homes in th East, knowing they would never go back. Poem really made me think.
I'm grateful my poem made you think. My great grandfather left Germany and immigrated to the US not knowing what to expect...what courage he and early pioneers had. Thanks for sharing your thoughts...have a pleasant evening, Sara
We all get homesick.. Whenever I go away, I always want to go home after a week.. I just love my bed too much I guess .. Whenever i come back to my city, the air just fills my senses and I feel at peace..
What a deep write this is dear sara, as always one that made me ponder. I absolutely love the way youv delivered this and sometimes through time yes everything gets lost or misplaced and can feel different, and youv expressed that very well, i especially loved the lines “ Hiraeth abides not in space or time, but in the mind and heart?“ powerful line! Home is a feeling, state of mind, not a place but one shared with loved ones that youv made it clear through your well articulates lines.FAVE
Being with family is inherently a realm of joy and kindness. Yes--a sense of belonging, as you say, Sara.
