Holding You
I turn to you in dark of night
and hold you while you sleep.
Smelling of your hair and skin
I softly start to weep.
More than any dream I dreamed
an un- dreamed dream came true.
The day I looked into your eyes.
The day God gave me you.
Facing all my doubts and fears
and facing all my sorrow.
As I hope and sometimes pray
I'll still have you tomorrow.
It's not unhappy tears I cry
or some defeated attitude.
These tears that find your pillow
are tears of gratitude.
I listen in the still night air
to the rhythm of your heart.
Holding you holds me together
as I start to fall apart.
For all the places yet to see
where together one day we'll travel.
How can it be my love for you
still makes my heart unravel.
As I turn to you in dark of night
and hold you while you sleep.
Smelling of your hair and skin
I softly start to weep.
