Hold Back the Rain

Hold back the rain just a little while. Let the clouds gray the sky but hold the flood gates closed. Hold back the chilled wind up in the trees high above. Let the warm remain just a little longer. Hold the color of the leaves in brilliant reds and yellows. Let the oranges and the greens cling tight and unrelenting on each branch. Hold the end of autumn standing still with soft pastel sunsets. Let the night inch slowly earlier each evening. Hold back the silence of dusk whispering each sad goodbye. Let the earth sing loud and vibrant birdsong amidst the chatter of the squirrels. Hold silent the caw of the crows once sharp, repetitive and shrill. Let the scary tingle of their cries slip away into the cold. Hold steady and still this moment in time. Let it not step forward or back Hold me safe in the here and now before the rains come.
