His Life, His Love

Above a cloud, in soundless, still tumescence, a goddess rests; below her is the sea. A strip of it is rippling luminescence, a path of light in night’s serenity. A solitary boat now passes through the lane of radiance. One man regards the sky and ocean, both a cobalt blue, and ponders inspiration of the bards. For what could man want more than such as this - -the tranquilness of dark in Luna’s glow! At times he longs to taste a woman’s kiss though he embraced this life so long ago. . . His gaze is fixed on her who shines above. He chose the sea. . . and moon became his love. September 18, 2010 Submitted Oct. 7, 2022 for Mark Toney's 2022 Poetry Marathon Mile 16 Poetry Contest

Andrea, you do so well with the nautical themes. This is a lovely sonnet. Reminds me of the song lyrics "my life, my love, and my lady is the sea" - and in this case, the moon too! Congratulations on your second-place podium finish on Mile 16 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon Contest. Keep your running shoes on, because Mile 17 has already started. P.S. I just read John Watt's comment below after I wrote the above. We had the same idea! ;)

This reminds me of that song Brandy from the 70's - "His life, his love, and his lady... is the sea". Brilliant depiction of Luna in her lovely countenance and the sailor basking in her glow as he ponders romance he left behind. "Tumescence", now there's a $100 word! Congrats and another FAV ~ John

I get so confused figuring out rhyme schemes in sonnets!...Can you tell me what type sonnet this is?...There are so many and this is a real beauty as usual from you...Yes, you did inspire me to rewrite 'Sea Gypsy'...the original was intended for Nette's contest so I looked at it again and added another verse...Congrats on another 1st place win my friend! - Tim
