Highlands Fore'Er

Oh, write tae me of the highlands, the crisp air and the damp. Write tae me of the heather'd fields 'ere Bonnie Charlie danced. Oh, place yo'r quill upon the page and dream a fey song wit me, of rock tor's an' crags an' fiords which join the raging sea. Of fair Iona, the Isle of Sky the Inner Hebrides. Hike yo'r kilt, strap on the uilleann and keen a sweet song for me. Oh, dinnae tarry beyond the pale, with the wail of the brash banshee. *Written in dialect in the style of Robert Burns **Dedicated to our Jamie our own Highlander

Funny but just having returned from all of those places (Isle of Skye, travelled 3900 miles) did all of UK by car and having my in-laws from Scotland, I understood your whole poem. Well Done. Lee

Oh la...your writings remind me of Robbie Burns, Deborah!:) I think that out of any I've enjoyed by himself, yours could stand next to them. I don't think I'd wish to "tarry beyond the pale"...banshees must have made a horrific sound! They were probably shrieking out at the harpies? Best to you and yours!! Mikki :)

No, Deborah, that's a misunderstandig! I didn't mean your Sonnet, which I much appreciate, I just wrote "shave" instead of have in my comment. Let us keep Scotland high! Love, Gert

Sorry for the "Shave", should of course be "have". I'm often missing "my Scotland"! Gert

Hello Deborah, I'm not a Scottish lad, but shave studied in Edinburgh. I really feel the Scottish air, the brae, one could become himself a "Flying Scotsman", lovely. Continue with that!!! Gert

Are you sure you aren't a native of the Highlands yourself, lassie? Gather ye a armful of heather, and running through the moors.....?
