Hidden In Grass

I started to walk in tall grass, alas, a snake hides there and I cannot pass. Slithery, slimy, awful, shoddy RUN! instead, I look at snake's body. A tiny snake rests beside its mom, they're enjoying a warm, sunshine calm. And look! Perfect diamonds on mom's back in lovely shades of green with a black. Her eyes, as she locks mine in her glance, blaze coral fire, the green they enhance. Perhaps we should give Nature regard; not confine it to evergreen yard. I learned a bit on afternoon stroll, hidden creatures we should extol Snake and I each understood our place in Nature's garden and Human race. I've written a few poem about snakes I experienced as a boy living in he country or working in the garden. All were nonpoisonous. Still I find them creepy creatures with a bad reputation that goes way back in time. Enjoyed the read. / Maurice

Well, I actually did have a coiled rattler 2 feet from my back door. I had to go past her to get my dogs in. She was raised up to strike, but I got inside. Our eyes met and she slithered off without striking. whew! Thanks for commenting!

Everything has a place in Nature. Each one is created with a purpose. Initially though the snake created fear in you, as you watched it closely, your fear gave way to a kind of awe. Well done, Ann. All the Best!

Thanks, Valsa. I try to give the wild respect, and hope they do the same with me. :)

Quite a different take on the misunderstood snake (though not one of my favorite animals) Hope it's a winner for you~

Thanks, Michelle. I did have an encounter with a coiled rattler 2 feet from my back door. We locked eyes and she slithered away. I was dumb but lucky. :)

True. Boas--the small kind--are quite gentle, until they're stressed. I just prefer my pet to be dog, cat or bird. :)

I'm a big chicken, too, Gershon. I just expect all animals to respect me like I respect them. I'm lucky she didn't strike.
