Here I Stand and Face the Rain
I stand before you in this rain
You keep dry in the open doorway
Fully aware of this growing pain
Waiting silently till something, you say
I step towards you, but I refrain
For breaking your heart, this price I pay
At the threshold you remain
Standing here soaking, I will stay
Thoughts rush inside, like a pounding train
Wondering when, my heart, you’ll slay
Any second now, you’ll leave me maim
Please forgive me; I hope, I pray
You close the door, but at least you came
I said I could take it, come what may
But now the tears in mine eyes won’t tame
The fibers of my very heart begin to fray.
I knew I shouldn’t have tried to attain
A soothing forgiveness, how cliché
I should never have hoped, you’d be humane
Never the less my heart’s in dismay
I truly hoped you'ld feel the same
the tenderness from yesterday
But I accept your burning blame
For you are the one I did betray
