Helium Balloons

Helium balloons may last Well past when they're inflated, Although longevity like that Is vastly overrated. For who needs "Welcome Baby" ones When yours is two years old; And most "Congratulations" After weeks start growing cold. Balloons fulfill their duties well But often they will pop; With helium, however, All those greetings never stop. Yet there's one way to tell If a balloon should bite the dust - When it's puckered, loose and droopy, Then its message you can't trust.

So many thoughts going on in this piece. For some reason the first stanza felt like an allegory for when you grow older you also grow fatter. Could be wrong though... ha ha ha. "All those greetings never stop." it makes me think that you shouldn't dwell on past events and look ahead, move on. And then your last stanza leaves room for reflection - very well written.

Just let one go in memory of my sister Robyn on this day, her birthday. It is stuck up in the neighbors tree. :) I'll be looking at that one for awhile. :) Peace. :)

this is a poignant comment, robert. i'm sorry for the loss of your sister and i think it's a lovely tradition to let a balloon go on her birthday...
