He Gave Her a Book

She grew up in the modernity of urban culture, fascinated by the rhythm of contemporary music, decided to make the career of choice as a professional pop singer. An exponent of traditional art, her father didn’t like the idea of his daughter straying. So, on her eighteenth birthday he gave her a book, “Geetanjali” (song offerings), he cherished most. A collection of classical lyrics with central theme resonating the serene music of devotion to God, didn’t appeal to her youthful vibrant mind, so, she stowed it away unread in the bookshelf. Time didn’t treat her the way she wanted, destiny rolled for her the unkindest dice. Before she could cross the prime of youth, deadly disease destroyed her sonorous voice. As all her songs sank in the abyss of agony, she remembered the book of song her father gave. From its pages lyrics of solace echoed in her ears, she lost her voice, but discovered the divine melody. (Geetanjali (Song Offerings) is written by Rabindranath Tagore for which he received the nobel prize for literature) May 30, 2021 Contest : He Gave Her A Book Sponsor : Mystic Rose Rose

Truly Tagores poems are a solace ..he has given us so.much ...I often wonder how he wrote , how he thought one lifetime is too short to try reading all his works. Thanks to you Subimal da. for this tribute to the genius with your so appropriate words. You lifted my spirit in this lockdown
