Happy To Be Here -Re-Post

Happy to be here Is there someone you know, who's dark days only grow, And they can't say, they're happy to be here When a bright, new day breaks, but, they're afraid to awake, And they won't say they're happy to be here refrain And they can't say they're happy to be here There's a rainbow, it's true, it's color's, fading hues, And they can't find any joy in living And a bird when it sings, doesn't mean anything, There's no meaning in their song of beauty Bridge ooh and I feel bad for them...... ooh and I feel bad for them...... And their friends, family, just want them to be free, but their thoughts, keep them enchained, in prison When their hands and their feet, have been bound endlessly, and their only companion is sorrow And a new day is born, but they feel so forlorn, and the echoes just bellow with laughter refrain And they can't say their happy to be here Bridge oooh and I feel bad for them oooh and I feel bad for them Every day is a task, so they put on new masks, so that no one can see, they've been crying Like the tears of a clown, when no one else is around, How can anyone know what they're feeling? Bridge oooh and I feel bad for them oooh and I feel bad for them And they say there's a pill, but they haven't got the will, they say no pill, can fill, all that's empty So they live day to day, and they kneel down and pray Please forgive me, dear God, for what I'm thinking Bridge oooh and I feel bad for them oooh and I feel bad for them So you go the next day, want to wipe their tears away, but, you get there, too late, to save them Bridge oooh and I feel bad for them oooh and I feel bad for them They... just... couldn't... say... they're... happy... to... be... here! I have a few friends away from families at this time of year and even I get those dark feelings when my kids aren't together with me. When most of the world is celebrating, those without suffer the most...a kind word goes a long way John... don't be afraid to pick up the phone or wave and smile at someone. It could be the difference in life or death.

Hey Tim nice to see you pass by my way, I'm glad you see the usefulness of this warning, I have helped many off the ledge in my time, chronic depression is a killer,, especially if they don't want to take meds, vicious circle. Thanks for your thoughts! Wow you and Leanne at the same time, I must be doing something right lol!

This is a subject I am very close to and it is important for those who are suffering depression, in all it's guises, to know that they are never truly alone, that there are people who do care and will listen and support and assist with refuge (monitored or not, safe housing or accommodated in a refuge/ or medical facility). It is also important that those not suffering depression, not play it off lightly (and ignore it as something less, than what it really is... a condition, that when bad enough, and the sufferer has become totally isolated, can result in suicide). It is important for all, who are fortunate to be in a healthy mental state to be aware of those around them and to not hesitate to reach out to those who are suffering...as hard as some people may find that act of kindness.

Christmas is one of the worst times for people with severe depression to commit suicide. Depression, though, has no real season, it's a constant. Yes, I think you should post it yearly around Christmas. xx

Thanks Leanne, I'm glad to see that you understand the value of this write, I'm thinking of posting it yearly. I like your comment saying we should not brush it off when a depressed person is in need, it can...and does lead to suicide...hence the write!

Very profound and important message relayed through your lyrics John. x

This is something that should be posted again and again to remind us of the internal struggle that some have. Sometimes people really need to look more closely into the hearts of those around them. Unfortunately, a lot of people are very clever at hiding their pain from people because they don't want to be a "burden". A simple hello, or a reminder of how they are missed when they are not around can make a huge difference to everyone's life really. Great post John.

So true MA, thanks for your insightful comment. The problem is we can't read hearts, if they put on their mask then no one knows they are crying, no easy solution for it, for sure. Thanks again!

Suicide is a choice some make thinking it will end suffering when in fact it brings so much more to those who love them! Great awareness John!;)

My mother suffered from severe bouts of depression almost daily, John. I tried but didn't know how to help her. I hope a lot of people take this message to heart. Excellent poem, John. Hugs, carolyn

Thanks Carolyn, for those with chronic depression only medication helps, the hard part is getting them to take it. Sorry this has touched you, I feel for all those who suffer!

Thanks Andrea, the competition was very good, the winners I think were the best, and many great sonnets had to be left off, so I'm glad you're happy with placing!

powerful John and so poignant...i know of so many (students and teachers) that i knew that had that weak moment when they didn't feel like they wanted to be here... sad when a person reaches that point... Good Write... Happy New Year my friend...i don't know how i missed this one but glad i saw it now... hugs

Thanks Sandy, it is sad but I think if people really had a purpose they wouldn't give up on life. Also family breakdown leads to loneliness, and regret later. Let's hope this year brings happiness, although I believe happiness is a conscious choice state of mind, not dependent on our circumstances.

Powerful lyrics! Thanks for sharing again at this time of year that can be so dark and lonely for some. I lost a coworker to suicide last year. It's chilling.

Thanks Silent, with families breaking down in society, many are not with their families, and especially now feel the acute pain of being alone, but suicide is not the answer. Thank you for your support on this issue!

I really loved the tune of this metaphoric write--even though it speaks of a sad and serious matter. The bridge and refrain enhance the theme beautifully.

Thanks Vijay, I thought it was timely to re-post this one at this time of the year, many I know, even poets who are alone feel it more at this time of the year. Thanks for your constant and positive support!

A very poignant and relatable poem, John. It is very touching and timely. Your lyrics speak the sparkling truth concerning a dark reality. Another gem that I missed ... I joined PSoup in 10/16.

Thanks Freddie, I do know how many do suffer acute loneliness especially this time of year. Family breakdown in society contributes to many being alone and not with their families. Suicide is not the answer, although it's difficult to get through to these ones. Thanks for your always astute observations!

John, your words tug deeply at my heart. You are the voice for those that don't have one. So many feel this way. (I feel bad for them) too. There are so many blessings out there, to enjoy. No one is truly ever alone. Tender sigh. ~ Brandy

Thanks Brandy, I do worry this time of the year, many are alone and feel their loneliness more acutely now. I do try to speak for anyone in that situation. You're right we are never alone God is with us! Thanks for your kind words!
