Happy People Need Sun

"HAPPY PEOPLE NEED SUN" it was supposed to rain today but it didn't. the sun had no movement, it was still, it was dead. the woman in my room had no expression. "let's take a walk," I said. "no," she replied. "but I'll sit under the sun with you." I grabbed my shades and my chair, I was ready. "no!" she would scream. "lay under the sun with me." she wore a bathing suit, the color of a carrot with smalls throws of yellow. under her big sun hat was fiery red hair, the small strands of dark brown gave it it's character. we reached the grass, out came her blanket. "here... sit," she said. "playing cards?" I asked. "we could've done that in the house." "yeah, we could've but, we're happy people and happy people need sun," she explained. I was unsure of the game ahead, soon, by the setup, we'd be playing Speed. we flipped our first cards, our first hand in hand. a king, a three. card after card, we raced to win. "speed!" she proclaimed. "I win!" I was bummed. "I never win card games!" I threw my hands in the air. "I guess the old saying is true. lucky in cards, unlucky in love." she stopped suddenly, there was no color, no life. "I'm sorry," I said with conviction. "I didn't mean anything by it." "I need a drink," she said. the woman with no expression found her expressions and they all got drunk under the sun. By: Chicano Eddie 7-17-2016
