Happy Birthday

Born on this ample autumn feast held yearly on the earth’s bed Of sweet, mellow tinges of chrome hued to motley tints of red, You should sure grow as affluent, bounteous, and merciful From the abundance of your heart a vast tablecloth to spread To feed alike fish, flesh, and fowl, to save a starved man whose crop Was robbed by ants, rats and locusts with your precious loaves of bread. Happy birthday, good-hearted soul! May God’s heaven rain gold leaves And golden glows forevermore on your kind shoulders and head! May the harvests you toil over be yours, always kept aloof From the foul hands of harmful beasts in vile laps brought up and bred! May you and your dearly loved ones be safe from the fiendish wrongs Of the devils in human guise all from indecent breasts fed! And may, in fine, the seeds you sow rest in the snow with no dread, Each to pen in the next autumn hundreds of tales to be read. 2.10.2021 No comments, please!
