Happy 100th Birthday Captain Tom

Who is this man who rose to sudden fame? Captain Tom Moore is his official name. A Yorkshireman who called a spade a spade, Young Tom became an engineer by trade. But turning twenty, life was put on hold As World War 2 had started to unfold. He joined the Duke of Wellington's platoon And rose to rank of Captain pretty soon. In Burma he opposed the Japanese, And when his duties finished overseas, Returning home to Blighty, there are tales Of motorcycling sprees across the Dales. Throughout the years he'd somehow found the knack Of reaching out and trying to give back. Which prompted the idea of raising cash By giving daily sponsored walks a bash, Donating funds towards the NHS And thereby his deep gratitude express. Despite these trying times he brings us cheer Encouraging us all to persevere. We heard him with determination say 'The sun will shine and clouds will go away'. So on his hundredth birthday let us toast A Yorkshireman more spirited than most. 29.04.20 Thomas Moore, known as Captain Tom, is a former British Army officer known for his efforts to raise money for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

The Thomas Moores of this world have made quite a brand name, haven't they? Nicely done, Wendy!

Indeed including a fellow poet of course. I have just re-read his lovely poem 'The last rose of summer'. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment, Rico.

From across a pond and a continent, I join you in your toast to a remarkable man, a beacon of inspiration in our beleaguered times. Hip hip, hooray to Captain Tom. Beautiful message, Wendy, and perfectly rendered. Your poetry admirer, John

Thank you, John. Did you have an American equivalent heroic character out of interest? We hear that he received 140 thousand cards so I doubt if he would have got around to reading my tribute which, like Tom I posted to him.

Thank you, Tom. Yes we're keeping well this end thankfully and all those jobs I've put off for years have been ticked off! I enjoyed your rendition and wonder if he'll ever get to see them amongst so many cards.

Thanks, Jan. And well done for bringing a home grown hero to our attention. Do many people speak Manx Gaelic out of interest?
