Hang Up
Intoned and on automatic –
almost entirely dialed…
then ordered into sudden
silence.
Inaudible sigh.
Quietly, I rest – for now.
I’ll use the downtime to build up my strength.
Stubborn, how I resent
being put down and willfully ignored.
(Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!)
Immobile: yet how moving?
A little manipulator
evoking the first law of thermodynamics
(it’s true, even in love)
in my application, to get to work:
“Your emotions aren’t going to evaporate,
you know. Just make the call.”
I love bearing witness to the fight in her.
She loses it just a little every single day.
Sometimes, she throws me.
Maybe I’m astonished, but I don’t break easily.
And, I think, I will, eventually, win.
