Halloween Treat

Author's Notes: "Halloween Treat" is a my very first Halloween poem for this season that will soon be upon us during October. I thought I would go ahead and release this poem now in anticipation of many more to follow later in October as we move toward All Hallows' Eve!! I wrote this poem using the "Etheree" poetic format consisting of ten verses that are both unmetered and unrhymed, and set in a progressive syllabication sequence which adds one syllable to each succeeding verse (or line) until the total syllable count of "55" is reached. The message is quite simple here in this poem. The Devil (aka: "Old Hob") may have plans to consume my soul, but he shall see the reflection of my crucifix on this night instead!! With that, all I can say is: "Halloween is coming -- Get Ready!! (Gary Bateman - September 22, 2015) (Etheree)

(I found out later about Andrea's "October Etheree Contest," but noted from her Contest Site that she didn't want anyone to submit a Halloween theme poem outside of the guidelines she had already given.) Hello Barbara!! Actually, I didn't even think about the October contest. I read a really fine Etheree that "The Silent One" wrote for the contest and thought I might write an Etheree later but probably on another subject. As it turns out the "Halloween Treat" theme appeared to me out the blue yesterday -- and now your know the result of it, as it appears above. I'll take a look at Andrea's contest and see if this one fits the requirements of what she's looking for. More Dark Themes, BTW, to come in October. I won't let "Old Hob" get me though!! Hello Tim, I guess I'm the one who has inadvertently "let the Cat out of the bag," so to speak in getting on with Halloween a wee bit early. I was inspired to try an Etheree from a really good one I read yesterday done by "The Silent One." Somehow the Halloween idea I had just seemed to fit my intent to write one. (And it's always most appreciated on my end!! I just have to make doubly sure that my poetry continues to reflect the high standard of writing that I hold myself to in my writes!!)
