Grand Residential Old Worthing Town

Oh how very earnestly pleasing I do so find The wide, sun splashed avenues Of grand residential Worthing; Where the old poets Announce each and every corner; So neatly squared and turned By thoroughly conceived Victorian Order. Quiet sonnets reside here Seeking haven from weary travels, Sustained by appetizing foreign aromas, Loitering amidst the long drawing shadows; Clinging to the flinted garden walls, Dallying with the scented Jasmine From where hidden finches call. Finding yourself gently led down And into narrow, high walled streets; That delightfully converge upon Bustling open spaces Where the multi-nations meet; And greet with quarrelsome gulls, Strutting and yarking, Barking like little dogs Around our feet. Here we can absently sit, And make like carefree Parisians Separated by an English sea, Whilst contentedly sipping scalding coffees Of exciting continental styles; And forgetting our mundane troubles... Smile and laugh, for perhaps, Just the shortest of whiles.

John, this is a brilliant piece of work. A 7 from me. I have such bad stage fright, I don't think I'd be able to read my poetry in front of anybody. Well done. :O) Keep up with the great work. Keep on penning. Thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful and creative talents with us. We all truly appreciate it. *S* Cynthia

Hi, Andrea. Worthing town is in the council district of Arum in the county of west Sussex. It is a seaside town on the south east coast of England. It is a very old settlement. The Victorians did a lot to develop Worthing: The beautiful pier started in 1861, many beautiful seafront hotels, and the stunning promenade! There is enough material here for me to write a lot more poetry...as indeed i will! Many thanks, Andrea! :) john.

Interesting note: When i parked up the car and walked down to the beach front, from the wide avenues into the narrow streets, i noticed that all the streets were named after the classical poets. Hence: "Where the old poets announce each and every corner". Cheers, Andrea! :) john.

oh my goodness, this is so delightful. It reminds me of when I was at shadowpoetry and she represented our poetry "homes" with different houses. I lived on sonnet street i think , which is why I enjoyed your mention of quiet sonnets residing there. what an imaginative poem.

A seaside sentiment of afternoon delight. Where life becomes a painted picture of gentle heart stroked light. Peace. :)
