Goldfish
Shimmering scales of
gold
slowly travelling their own globe.
Speaking silently,
their words muted by the glass
between us.
I spend all day staring,
straining to hear their secrets,
while they repeat endlessly,
never seeming to tire.
Blowing bubbles,
frolicking among the water plants,
floating atop beds of pebbles.
Days crossed on my calendar
are forgotten feelings in water.
Until one day,
gold
out of water
no longer shimmers.
Nothing gold can stay.
