Golden Wings

“Golden Wings” So long ago love felt so good, enough to last me forever I was the eagle flying above the clouds with you by my side No one could fly as high as you and I Those were the days when our hearts never skipped a beat Over the years our love never died just moved to the back of our mind New loves we believed were there to take each other’s place Never to be found again after the walls were built around us Yet here we are standing face to face with someone else holding your hand Life is just life some say, so live it like there’s no tomorrow Love is no good for anyone when they can’t have the love they really desire So many years loving the ghost of my past yet the love of my future haunts my dreams I can only stare at the memories of yesterday wishing time can be changed As we grow older with our health diminishing my heart continues to break into pieces Not able to be by your side as your breath escapes your lungs I break apart wishing God would let me be the one to run into the heavens There I can keep you safe as the angel with golden wings to carry you through the years
