Singapore became an independent sovereign city state in 1965, after separation from Malaysia. Before that time, Singapore was a British colony. This year 2015 marks the golden jubilee of Singapore as a republic, and the official celebrations for half a century of independence is the SG 50 hallmark.
As a 60-year old Eurasian man, I am especially fond of my citizenship in this small island nation affectionately called "The Little Red Dot". I wrote two poems to celebrate this occasion -- "Golden Jubilee" and "Singapore". Enjoy!
A special year, a special time:
Greet moments fine, greet golden cheer;
Observe thoughts clear, observe fond chimes;
Let joy align, let peace endear;
Discern your mood, discern your best;
Enjoy grand fest, enjoy warm state;
Note precious good, note cheery quest.
Join in the zest, join in the date;
Use sanguine plot, use common theme;
Blessings fit well, blessings for each;
Indulge your lot, indulge your dream;
Live your best tell, live your fond reach;
Express your joy, express your heart;
Etch your own ploys, etch your own start.
