Going Through the Motions

GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS The boat takes me back Home today without love or devotion A mechanical process with a lack Of sticky messy emotion A journey of duty, not desire, As a soldier goes to fight Machine-like in ice or fire - No break in the darkness for light Oh, that the ocean swell Would obliterate this boat entire And let the icy waves knell The bell that drowns the fire
