Author's Notes:  "Goethe's Emissary" is a Double Dactyl formatted write that I wrote as a tribute to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and his epic dramatic poem "Faust."  Goethe's "Faust" is truly a most wonderful and great dramatic poem in every respect.  This medieval legend sees Mephistopheles as the Devil's very emissary in helping to secure Faust's soul for the Devil, while the underlying literary theme emphasizes man's alienation in his own world and how he must approach his reconciliation with the world itself.  A most wonderful dramatic poem indeed!!  (Gary Bateman - May 19, 2015) (Double Dactyl)

Hello Zaynub . . . Glad you liked my Double Dactyl here on Goethe's Emissary. I live one hour's drive here in Germany from the "Brocken Summit" in the Harz where Goethe devised his setting for Faust, Mephistopheles, and the Devil. Very interesting indeed. I will check out your latest poems too. Best Wishes Always, Gary

Thanks Robert!! I'm glad you liked the double dactyl write. I'm a fan too of Christian Johann, and more particularly of Heinrich Heine. I had a poem in my book entitled: "Heinrich Heine Revisited." Goethe to the Germans is what Shakespeare is to the English. Schiller is another great one too of course. I read more and more of the Germans since I live here now in Europe. But I'm still a most loyal disciple of Shakespeare, Milton, and Chaucer!! Best Wishes My Friend!! Gary

Thanks ML!! Goethe is one of my all-time favorites among German writers (and Heinrich Heine too)!! I've always been captivated with "Faust" and the interplay among Faust, Mephisto, and The Devil. I enjoy this dactyl writes and plan to do more of them. Best Wishes Always, Gary
